Looking to enhance your teaching skills or get into a teaching role? The L5 Diploma in education and training from The Training Group is the ideal course for you.

If you’ve completed level 3 and level 4 education and training qualifications, this is the perfect way to extend your skills as a trainee teacher, helping you deliver learning sessions, plan schemes of work and develop teaching and learning strategies.

You may, however, be eligible to complete Level 5 without completing level 3 or level 4, depending on your classroom experience and existing qualifications – please contact us to discuss your exact circumstances. If you wish to undertake one of the lower level qualifications first; we also provide online training for both the Level 3 Award and Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

Requirements

  • Learners must be at least 19 years old on the first day of the training.
  • It is recommended all Learners undertake an initial assessment in English, Maths and ICT as there is a requirement to undertake learning online and submit written assessments as part of the course.

Target Audience

  • This course is ideal for anyone currently in a teaching role looking to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS) or simply improve their teaching skills.
  • You do not need to have completed the level 3 or level 4 courses to enrol on the level 5 DET. If you meet the minimum criteria as detailed in the course pre-requisites you can enrol on the level 5 course immediately. You can start the course at any time.

Unit 1: Developing Teaching, Learning & Assessment In Education & Training

Learners will be taught how to analyse the application of pedagogical principles, use assessments, plan lessons and prepare for the classroom environment.

Unit 1 Workbook

Unit 2: Teaching, Learning & Assessment In Education & Training

Learners will be taught about their responsibilities as educators, educational legislation, meeting the needs of the learners and how to teach in a student-centred manner.

Unit 3: Theories, Principles & Models In Education & Training

Learners will be taught ways in which theories, principles and models of learning can be applied to teaching, learning and assessment.

Unit 4: Wider Professional Practice & Development In Education & Training

Learners will be taught about the concepts of professionalism and dual professionalism in education and training and how they can apply this within the classroom.

Unit 15: Inclusive Practice

Learners will be taught how to review the impact of personal, social and cultural factors on learning and teaching.

Unit 17: Preparing for the mentoring role

Learners will be taught how to analyse the skills and qualities required for a the mentoring role teachers play in education.

Unit 25: Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area

Learners will be taught how to analyse how theories, principles and models of inclusive curriculum design can be used to inform resource development in own specialist area.

Daniel is an experienced educator with many years of experience working in both public and private education sectors. A qualified teacher with QTS, Daniel graduated from the University of Edinburgh as a PE teacher. Since graduating he has worked in primary and secondary schools as well as private schools across Scotland. Daniel then began a career with the British Army, developing and delivering training for soldiers and officers across the entirety of the Army. He also has experience in Adult education, delivering a wide range of accredited vocational courses alongside consulting for various organisations and awarding bodies.
