This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides Learners with the skills and knowledge needed to safely administer medical oxygen in an emergency.

Level 3 Award In Administration Of Emergency Oxygen (RQF)

DESCRIPTION
INTENDED AUDIENCE

The Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Oxygen (RQF) has been specifically designed for those who have a responsibility for the treatment and/or management of casualties who need administration of emergency medical oxygen.This qualification is suitable for first aiders operating in a high risk environment, community first responders, cabin/film crew, fire, police and other emergency services personnel.

While achievement of this qualification confirms Learners have met both the theoretical and practical requirements, this does not imply a ‘license to practice’ – the scope of practice will be determined by the organisation responsible for oxygen provision. This qualification does not allow a Learner to obtain, store or administer oxygen without clinical governance.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Successful Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed for the safe, prompt and effective use of administering oxygen in an emergency. Topics covered include: clinical need for oxygen therapy, oxygen delivery devices and administering emergency oxygen. 

Course Outline/Learning Outcomes

1. Know guidelines for the use of oxygen therapy

  • 1.1 Explain benefits of oxygen therapy
  • 1.2 Identify indications for the use of oxygen
  • 1.3 Explain contraindications prohibiting use of oxygen
  • 1.4 Explain dangers of using compressed gas
  • 1.5 Outline health and safety rules for the: • Use • Storage • Handling of oxygen

2. Be able to administer oxygen therapy

  • 2.1 Carry out operational checks in preparation for use of oxygen therapy equipment
  • 2.2 Identify when oxygen therapy is required
  • 2.3 Administer oxygen using the required flow rate for the following oxygen delivery devices: • Non-rebreather mask • Bag, valve and mask
  • 2.4 Administer oxygen to a patient in line with agreed ways of working
ASSESSMENT METHODS

1 x Learner Workbook and 1 x Practical assessment

 

Successful Learners will receive a personalised Level 3 Award for Administering Emergency Oxygen (RQF) e-Certificate immediately after their results have been submitted*. Printed certificates are available at an additional cost.
